The Department of Physics conducts research in many frontier areas. These areas include experimental solid state physics, optical and laser physics, and various aspects of theoretical and computational physics ranging from condensed matter to string theory and cosmology.

Besides imparting quality education to the department students, the faculty also teach specialisation subjects, like nano-technology, nuclear medicine and medical physics to name a few.

The Department is maintaining a high academic record right through from year the department established.
